Australian National Retailers Association (ANRA) complies with the National Privacy Principles (“the NPP’s”) as set out in the Privacy Act 1988 (as amended by the Privacy Amendment (Private Sector) Act 2000). ANRA appreciates the importance of confidentiality when dealing with our members and the broader business community.
Our privacy policy deals with your additional right to privacy and is independent of our contractual and ethical obligations.
We are committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring that your contact with us and your use of our web site and other facilities is a safe and rewarding experience.
INFORMATION COLLECTED
ANRA will not collect or monitor personal information about you without your consent. However, if you choose not to provide any of the information requested by ANRA or you do not consent to use of your personal information for the purposes set out in this policy, we may be unable to provide you with suitable services.ANRA may collect information from you in one or more of the following circumstances:
Membership Details
When an organisation joins ANRA we collect the names and job titles of key contacts within that organisation. This allows us to tailor our services to the most appropriate people within member companies. These details are used by ANRA for business purposes only and are not provided to external bodies, unless we are required to do so for legal reasons.
Cookies
A cookie is a small piece of data which is sent from a web server to a web browser on the user’s machine when the browser visits the server’s site. Accordingly, ifyou visit the ANRA web site to read, browse or download information without logging in, our system will record the date and time of your visit, the pages viewed, the time spent on the web site, the information downloaded and the country from which you've accessed the site. It does not identify you personally.
This information is strictly confidential and used for internal research purposes only. It helps us track which sections of the site are most popular and gives us a clear idea of what type of information and services to include on our site. It also tells us which members and subscribers are using the site, which further helps us to tailor our on-line information.

Registration – Events and Functions
The ANRA web site offers event registration facilities. Any information you provide when registering to attend an ANRA event is kept strictly confidential. The appropriate details are recorded against the company name on our customer database - ie:
- name
- address and phone number
- membership number (if applicable)
- the name of the event
- method of payment - ie credit card or invoice
- the type of credit card but not the credit card number or the expiry date - ie Visa, Mastercard, American Express
- the name of the credit card holder
- on-line registration date
If you decide to complete an online application form, we will only collect the information that you enter into the online form if you submit your application. If at any stage you cancel your application or log out prior to submitting your application, the information you have entered to that point will be automatically deleted.
USE AND DISCLOSURE OF INFORMATION
Any information you provide to ANRA is kept strictly confidential. However, there may be occasions where it will be necessary for ANRA to disclose your personal information to third parties. ANRA may be required by law to disclose the information, or ANRA may be required to disclose your personal information to third parties to provide the service you have requested. However, the disclosure will only be made where it is necessary to fulfill the purpose for which you disclosed your personal information. Otherwise than as stated above, we do not disclose personal information that you have given us, to any organisation or person outside ANRA unless you have authorised us to do so.

ANRA has developed procedures to prevent unauthorised access to your personal information and policies to ensure it is used correctly. ANRA strives to protect your personal information, however, ANRA cannot ensure the security of any information that you transmit to us over the internet and you do so at your own risk. ANRA will take all reasonable steps to ensure that your information is secure once it has been received on our systems. The ANRA website links to external websites and we take no responsibility for the privacy practices or the content of these other sites.
Access to your personal information
ANRA encourages you to access and update your personal information should you believe it to be incorrect. If you wish to do so, please contact us and we will take all reasonable steps to correct your personal information, ensuring its accuracy. - it would have an unreasonable impact upon the privacy of other individuals; or
- the request is frivolous or vexatious.
